Managed to change a file type and the process seems very quick and easy. Unfortunately I really don't have much idea about different file types and all their uses, so at this point I am not sure what applications this would have in the library.
Obviously I need to find out more! Any suggestions?

What sort of file did you convert, Robin? That is obviously an e.g. Converting stuff from publisher is another. Or is might be that people have a later version of something, like Vista, and need to convert down. Or I have used it to convert photos to different formats, eg .gif to .jpg. Some people still use Works at home - converting the word-processing or spreadsheet or database from them to "normal" microsoft products would be good.
Thanks Polyxena for your comments about converting types of files. I think the problem really is I don't understand the differences eg. between tif, gif, jpeg etc.
